Buying and Using Peg Winders

Peg winders are an important part of using your guitar correctly, since it's an integral part of effectively changing your guitar strings.  Since you'll want to change your guitar strings with some regularity (and will have to replace them without too much delay when the strings start to show wear and tear), this should be a part of your carrying case setup.

So, where do you buy peg winders?  They're a simple tool, and the easiest and fastest way to get them is to run to any local music store.  These music stores will be able to offer them at a reasonable price, and if they're especially nice, may even let you use one of their free of charge.  Another legitimate option for purchasing peg winders is to buy online.  Unlike many accessories, however, the price difference will not be all that significant, thanks to the shipping cost's increase to the overall amount that you pay.

When you have the peg winders, you should easily be able to use them to remove the pegs when changing out strings.  You will need your new string and the peg winder.  You'll unwind the string off the top, then use the peg winder to pop the string off the peg that's in question (it's a simple matter of sliding it over the peg and pulling).  You'll then take the ball end of the string and replace it in the section where the peg was, and replace the pin in order to keep the tightness you're looking for.
