How to Answer the Question: How Much is My Guitar Worth?

There are many ways to get your guitar appraised – some of them being completely free, some of them costing a fortune.  Depending on the worth of your guitar, and when and how you intend to sell it, there are different tactics you may want to use.  I will be discussed three methods of getting a guitar appraisal, all of which are fast and easy.

Compare your guitar to others.  The best and easiest way to do this is to use eBay.  You can see what other people are selling their guitars for, and the real answer to “how much is my guitar worth” is: however much people are willing to pay for it.  However, you shouldn't just look at the asking price.  After all, many of these auctions won't ever sell.  So, what you can do instead is look at the “completed listing.”  This will require that you have an active eBay account, however, but is otherwise free of charge or hassle.

Another way to go about it is to get a general idea by using the blue book for guitars.  There are three major blue book publications on cars – the blue book of electric guitars, acoustic guitars, and guitar amplifiers.  You can order these online, or even get instant access thirty bucks a year.

If you want to have it appraised by an industry expert, individual like George Gruhn make a living off of online appraisals, and these can be done for as little as about thirty dollars for a full evaluation.
