PRS (Paul Reed Smith) Guitars haven’t been around nearly as long as most of their competitors.  Its namesake, guitarist and luthier, established the company in 1985.  They’re currently one of the leading manufacturers of high-end electric guitars.  Musicians and collectors from all across the globe have come to price these instruments that were once precisely crafter for local guitarists. 
PRS Guitars are among the best constructed in the industry.  Each aspect of every guitar is precisely assembled with the best materials money can buy.  Their instruments might not be the most unique around, but they make up for it with the quality creations they produce.
The company dealt with a contentious 10-year lawsuit from Gibson Guitar Corporation, the maker of the iconic Les Paul guitars, over their Singlecut guitar.  Gibson claimed concert goers wouldn’t be able to tell a PRS Singlecut and a Gibson Les Paul apart in a smoky room.  The offending guitars went off the market after an injunction came down, but the United States Court of Appeals reversed the lower court decision.  As a result, Singlecut guitars went back on the market with very few alterations.
Collectors try to profit off the infamy PRS Guitars achieved with this lawsuit by saying some of their Singlecuts are “pre-lawsuit” versions.  The company didn’t need to do anything to these guitars before they put them back on the market.
